About Google Smartwatches
Google Smartwatches are packed with smart features. Its fitness and health tracking capabilities include advanced heart rate monitoring as well as built-in GPS.
It also features emergency SOS and fall detection that will notify either 911 or trusted contacts of an incident, and its highly customizable interface offers plenty of choices for watch faces, apps and settings – perfect for anyone!
Google – The Brand
Google, founded in Mountain View, California and operating internationally since 1997, specializes in internet-related services and products including search engines, Gmail email services and social networks as well as smartwatches.
Pixel Watch was intended to mark Google’s entry into wearable technology. Instead, its front view suggests more closely to that of a premium Fitbit Wear OS watch that CEO James Park promised last year but never delivered on.
At first glance, the Pixel Watch looks delicate and costly due to the domed glass covering its AMOLED display. It appears to bend into the edges of its case like it would bend under normal circumstances; making the watch seem fragile even though Sandeep Waraich assures me it can withstand even rough activities like sports.
The rest of the watch is simple – one button sits atop a haptic crown used for scrolling, while you can swipe left or right to access notifications or apps.
On its back are a set of sensors designed to track fitness activity, heart rate and sleep patterns. Plus, this water-resistant Pixel Watch can even be worn while swimming!
Noteworthy is also its camera, which can recognise people and display information on screen similar to how Google Glass does but without the augmented reality capabilities. Google has yet to announce when this feature will become available but likely won’t wait much longer until its rollout this year.
Unfortunately, the Pixel Watch doesn’t support third-party straps yet; hopefully that may change at some point in the future. For now, however, you can purchase exclusive options from the company such as woven, leather and metal mesh straps.
History of Google Smartwatches
Before Apple unveiled their iWatch in 2015, Google had mostly taken an indifferent stance to wearable technology. After years of minor updates to Android Wear platform, however, most were released within one year or another – it seemed like Google had given up their ambitions of smartwatch development, only for it to return with a product and some major new features in 2018.
Google designed, developed and marketed its Wear OS-powered smartwatch Pixel Watch as part of their wearable experience platform Wear OS. It’s heavily integrated with Fitbit (which Google acquired early 2021). This integration shows how critical health tracking experience is for Google.
According to a Canalys report, Google Pixel Watch sold 880,000 units last year – although that may seem small amongst so many options available, it represents a considerable portion of overall wearable sales and remains unique as being equipped with both an EKG sensor and always-on display.
It features a more reliable battery with 24-hour use per charge and pin-charging technology to get up to 50 percent charged quickly in approximately 30 minutes. Other upgrades include the faster Snapdragon W5 processor and less power-hungry always-on display technology than its predecessor.
Reports indicate that Google may soon add additional sensors and features to the Pixel Watch in the near future. Given its history of testing out new hardware products for short periods before retiring them or pivoting elsewhere, it’s difficult to predict how it’ll fare. But two job listings within the company – for a vice president of hardware engineering and senior hardware design manager for Wearables – indicate they may have big plans for this device.
Google Smartwatches – Bestsellers
Google’s Pixel Watch is Android users’ answer to Apple Watch. Featuring a classic round face design and compatible with all Android smartphones, the Pixel Watch was made as an accessory to accompany Pixel phones while providing additional convenience.
The Pixel Watch may be expensive, but it makes an excellent first smartwatch or upgrade option for those just getting into smartwatches or considering upgrading from cheaper devices. With long battery life and excellent health and fitness tracking features – not to mention numerous apps compatible with Google Assistant integrations – this device makes life easy.
Although packed with great features, the Pixel Watch does have some drawbacks. Most notable of which is its relatively short battery life when used for workout tracking with always-on display enabled; other competitors, like Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5, can last two days on one charge. That being said, however, the Pixel Watch remains an outstanding smartwatch; striking an excellent balance between features, specs, fitness tools, and is close to an Apple Watch for Android users; making this worthy companion device worthy of your wrist.
Latest Innovations
Google’s inaugural Pixel Watch was designed as a showpiece device to advance Wear OS ecosystem, but with its second-generation release it aims to differentiate itself in other ways as well.
The Pixel Watch’s always-on 1.2-inch AMOLED display is stunning: bright, colorful and crisp. Plus, its case has an unusual design – featuring a dome of glass that stretches to the edge of the watch forming a borderless curve. Because Google didn’t want traditional watch lugs interrupting this elegant shape, Google created its own proprietary strap system instead, using internal mechanisms so straps snap into place securely using internal mechanisms; they come in various colors and materials such as leather, metal mesh and synthetic fabric options – ideal for everyday wearable use!
As with other Android watches, the Pixel Watch 2 features built-in Google Assistant for hands-free voice control. You can use it to set alarms, send/read text from your phone, make calls and more. Furthermore, workout tracking with its updated heart rate sensor that’s up to 40% more accurate for vigorous activity is possible as is its new “Safety Check” feature that can run for a specified amount of time before notifying emergency contacts of your location.
The Pixel Watch 2 features a new 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 processor to ensure faster processing speeds and longer battery life, plus new Wear OS tiles which enable swipe left/right for quick controls, notifications, etc. Furthermore, rotating its crown allows you to navigate the interface like other Wear OS devices; additionally it adds support for Gmail/Calendar integration allowing users to open/respond/delete emails/create events/calendar reminders right from their wrist!
New Releases
Google’s Pixel Watch marks its debut self-branded smartwatch and offers incremental improvements like redesigned digital crown and Wear OS 4 preinstalled as well as an upgraded chipset that improves both performance and battery life.
Google Assistant can be easily accessed with a tap or voice command on the wrist, while you’ll also find other useful features on this watch such as built-in speakerphone for responding to texts or making hands-free calls, wallet integration enabling music playback control and storage, fall detection alerting emergency contacts when injured and live connection features that provide safety net for recovery.
Google’s software also includes a dedicated stress-tracking feature, using continuous electrodermal activity (cEDA) sensors and skin temperature sensors to assess how your body is responding to stress, similar to Fitbit’s Sense 2 and Versa 4. Furthermore, an “At a Glance” watch face display shows info whenever you glance down at your wrist.
Google also included six months of Fitbit Premium with its Pixel Watch to provide advanced fitness and wellness tracking, such as guided workouts, sleep monitoring and a Daily Readiness Score. In addition, EKG readings from FDA-cleared ECG readers are available with five-star safety rating that allows emergency contacts to share real-time location. Google will add this capability when updating to Android Wear 2.0 later this year for original Pixel Watch owners.
